Mauritius travel advice
Practical health tips for visitors, expats and students. Enjoy the island with confidence and know who to call if something goes wrong.

Before you arrive & every day on the island
Check routine vaccinations before you fly, pack enough prescription medication for your stay plus a few spare days, and keep allergies noted on your phone and in your wallet.
Mauritius is sunny year-round. New arrivals often underestimate the heat. Pace outdoor activities, drink plenty of fluids and protect your skin from the first day.
- Stick to sealed bottled water when in doubt; coconut water and oral rehydration salts help after long flights or hiking.
- Eat freshly cooked food and wash hands before meals; mild traveller's diarrhoea is common and we can advise by teleconsult.
- Use high-SPF sunscreen, a hat and shade at midday. Heat exhaustion and severe sunburn are among the most frequent holiday complaints.
